Parks & Recreation

Fall is a beautiful season, giving way to cooler temperatures, a colorful outdoors and more reasons to explore. Parks & Recreation offers a variety of programs, events and activities for everyone, especially our many outdoor adventures. Over 10 special events are planned to reconnect community, and we encourage you to take advantage of the many unique amenities available in our two recreation centers and in our parks.

We continue to celebrate our 40th Anniversary of working in partnership with you. In this fall brochure, we take a look at the history of community programming and thank the individuals, partners and staff who have helped us in meeting our mission to provide the programs, parks and facilities you enjoy today. Our REC Connect Before & After School program also celebrates 35 years of providing high-quality before and after school, summer camps and break programs to the community.

Please spend a few minutes with this edition of Destination Recreation and share it with your family and friends. This fall edition details our programs, events and activities, including a variety of virtual programs, scheduled* through December.

*Thank you for your support and flexibility as we continue to ensure compliance with the recommendations from the Governor, the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please visit Parks & Recreation COVID update for the latest information.

Thank You!

Thank you for your participation in the Master Plan process. The 2021 update of the Plan will provide staff, elected officials and citizens with a valuable planning tool to guide the development of three park facilities – the James City County Recreation Center Park, Upper County Park and the Warhill Sports Complex over the next ten years and beyond. We received more than 175 comments from the citizen engagement portion of the update process, and will incorporate that input into the final plans. The final step will be the adoption of these plans by the James City County Board of Supervisors this fall. Check here periodically and in the local media for the results of that process. You can continue to review the proposed changes for these facilities, and improvements will be completed based on community and citizen needs as well as available funding.
