The men and women of the James City County Fire Department respond to thousands of calls for service every year. In addition to fires they are called to medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, hazardous material spills, water emergencies and any other situation in which a citizen or visitor of James City County needs help. Every work day brings new experiences and challenges. Fire rescue technicians in James City County have opportunities to advance through our career ladder program and are encouraged to make the most of their careers with continuing education and training. Many have achieved higher certifications in EMS, technical rescue, water rescue and fire investigation; in addition to firefighting.
