The James City County Police Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Martin (formerly Jacobson) as the Director of Colonial Community Corrections. Director Martin brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having been an integral part of Colonial Community Corrections for 34 years and serving as the Acting Director since April 2023.

With a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saint Leo University and having held the position of Assistant Director since 1995, Director Martin has consistently demonstrated her commitment to public service. Her impressive tenure includes serving as the Chairperson of the Colonial Area Family and Intimate Partner Violence Fatality Review Team, where she played a pivotal role in enhancing the community's response to domestic violence. She secured over $850,000 in federal grants from the Department of Justice - Office on Violence Against Women, significantly advancing cross-system initiatives to address domestic violence in James City County.
Furthermore, Director Martin is recognized as the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) and Strangulation Protocol Coordinator for the Police Department, underscoring her dedication to collaborating with law enforcement to address complex community needs. In 2018, Martin was awarded the Virginia Peninsula Crime Stoppers Civilian of the Year Award.
In addition to her professional achievements, Director Martin has been an active member of the Gloucester County community, where she served as the Chair of the Gloucester County Library Board of Trustees and as a past member of the Gloucester County Planning Commission. She is also a devoted Sunday School Teacher and the Finance Secretary for Gloucester Point Baptist Church.
Colonial Community Corrections enhances public safety by providing judicial alternatives to adult incarceration, transitional services, and criminal justice planning. Director Martin's appointment marks a significant step forward in continuing and advancing these essential initiatives.
