Oct. 31 Update:
On the evening of Oct. 30, following a swift investigation, James City County Police successfully identified and located the suspect involved in the hit-and-run incident on Pocahontas Trail earlier that evening. Mehki Teachey, a 22-year-old resident of Newport News, was located and interviewed by police. After the interview, Teachey was formally charged with:
- § 46.2-894 Hit and Run Involving Injury or Death (F)
Teachey was processed at the Virginia Regional Peninsula Jail and was subsequently released on an unsecured bond of $5,000. The vehicle implicated in the incident, a blue 2022 Nissan Altima, has yet to be found. The victim is reported to be in stable condition, though the extent of the injuries is uncertain at this time. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
Oct. 30 News Release:
On Oct. 30, 2023, at approximately 5:25 p.m., James City County Police responded to a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Greenmount Parkway. Eyewitnesses reported that a pedestrian was struck by a turning vehicle, which then fled the scene. The victim suffered serious injuries and was promptly transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The vehicle involved in this incident is believed to be a blue Nissan Altima, described as a newer model, which proceeded eastbound towards Newport News after the incident. If you have any information concerning this incident, please contact police immediately. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
