Assistant Chief Humphries was promoted to Assistant Chief on June 1, 2022. Assistant Chief Humphries was previously employed with the Hampton Police Division as a police officer and was hired by the James City County Police Department in 1997. Assistant Chief Humphries has served JCCPD as a Police Officer, School Resource Officer, SWAT Team Operator, Patrol Sergeant, Community Services Unit Sergeant, Patrol Shift Commander and Day Shift Patrol Commander. Over his 24 years of service, he has received several awards and decorations, including the Supervisory Service Award.
Assistant Chief Humphries has a Bachelor’s Degree in Governmental Administration from Christopher Newport University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University. Additionally, he is an adjunct college professor.
