Police Chief Mark Jamison


Chief Mark Jamison joined the James City County Police Department on July 1, 2023. Before joining James City County, Chief Jamison served as Deputy Chief of the Field Operations Bureau for the Lynchburg Police Department. Chief Jamison joined the Lynchburg Police Department on January 3, 1997. During his career with the Lynchburg Police Department he was promoted through the ranks and served in Patrol, Vice/Narcotics, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, and was a Crisis Negotiations Team Commander. 

Chief Jamison earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Government from Liberty University and his Master of Science Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Longwood University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy session #268 and the North Carolina State University Administrative Officers Management Program. Deputy Chief Jamison is a graduate of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, Professional Executive Leadership School, the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police, and the Force Science Institute. 

He serves on the Crime Prevention Committee for the International Associations of Chiefs of Police and the Training Committee for the Virginia Associations of Chiefs of Police. Chief Jamison is also a member of the Police Executive Research Forum and the FBI National Academy Associates. He has sat on several local and state-level committees and boards that enhance law enforcement collaboration on a variety of community issues.
